FORGLASS selected for unusual batch house modernisation

It isn’t every day that a glass factory needs to modernise its batch house while maintaining production. But this was exactly the request posed by Ardagh Group Germersheim, who ultimately selected FORGLASS for the project. What makes this job particularly challenging is that switching over to the new control system and testing the software will have to be completed in very short windows of only 4 hours between batch deliveries!

As part of the modernisation project, FORGLASS will supply several components of the batch house, which must be integrated in the existing control system. These include:

  • New cullet return line with our crusher and two scraper conveyors with new PLC control
  • New cullet transport line with weighing conveyor belt
  • Replacement of one existing Z-Elevator to our bucket elevator.

The main part of the project, however, is converting the cullet return control from the old system of relays to modern software, process visualisation panel and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and upgrading the main PLC’s software – all of it without stopping production!

Ardagh Group Germersheim selected FORGLASS for this project because its automation experts are valued for their experience, reliability and innovative approach to challenging and difficult tasks.
